Skimming

Skimming dapat didefinisikan sebagai skill mencari informasi tertentu secara cepat yang terdapat dalam sebuah bacaan. Skimming hasus didasari oleh kemampuan membaca cepat yang dibatasi konteks bacaan. Contoh: dalam sebuah soal, tertulis: "According to the passa-ge, what has been the cause for changes in the sale of eggs?" Ketika mengeqakan soal ini, seorang peserta tes harus dengan cepat mampu mencari penyebab terjadinya perubahan dalam penjualan telor. Dia harus mampu mencari bagian yang mengarah pada informasi yang ditanyakan dalam soal dalam bacaan tersebut. Walaupun dalam teks tidak disebut-sebut kata 'cause', sebagaimana tertulis dalam soal, peserta tes harus dapat menyimpulkan dari konteks bacaan bahwa bagian yang dia temukan itu apabila diparafrasa merupakan penyebab dari terjadinya "perubahan pada penjualan telor".
